The dance between fine art & digital design
Since time is money, I must give my complete adoration to clients and companies that embrace and invest in the tedious, time-consuming, expensive, but always lovely process that is fine art.
When budget and time allow, I find myself dipping paint brushes into watercolors and starting to blend tradition and technology to create the marriage between fine art and digital design. This process always yields the most stunning designs that create a familiar feeling of new-age nostalgia among consumers.
The URBN companies (Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologie) have absolutely mastered this 'tradition meets technology' design process.
They are notorious for stopping strolling foot traffic with their jaw-dropping window and floorset installations. They create textual and color experiences that complement their seasonal launches and engage consumers in a truly branded and personal experience. For Free People, their hired artists are encouraged to get their hands dirty with watercolors, collage, paper mache, and other materials to build these sets. I often see their work scanned in and used as digital elements in their seasonal lookbooks, emails, social campaigns, you name it. Watch their process here to see how they too find a balance between traditional fine art and digital art to create unique, yet genuine content.
